In 2002 Gerald Marks designed the set for "The Empty Cup" at the Kaatsbaan International Dance Center in Tivoli, NY. The ballet was performed by international prima ballerina Martine van Hamel, choreography by Ann Marie DeAngelo and musical score by Conni Ellisor.

The dance center offers "Extreme Ballet", a course designed for pre-professional dancers, to be held in two sessions each year. Kaatsbaan (Dutch for "playing field") provides a dynamic combination of world class dance, nature, nurture and support. It is situated on 153 rural acres in the Village of Tivoli, New York—two hours north of New York City. The center was founded by Gregory Cary, Kevin McKenzie, Bentley Roton, and Martine van Hamel.
